EXTORTION : GOMWE ARRESTED

anu PF Harare provincial youth chairperson Godwin Gomwe and six other party officials were arrested and  appeared before a Harare magistrate facing three counts of extortion.

Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe remanded Gomwe and his co-accused in custody pending their bail application hearing tomorrow.

Gomwe, together with Muchineripi Mupindu, Fidelis Ndaradza, Haruwandi Munyawiri, Josephine Hadziendi, Norah Torongo and Hamfrey Madenyika were remanded in custody pending their bail application hearing on Tuesday.

State papers show Gomwe and his accomplices demanded amounts of up to US$46 thousand from housing cooperatives which they said was intended to finance projects for the party's Youth League. They then shared the money.

The State, represented by Michael Reza, opposed to the granting of bail citing the accused’s history of violence and would interfere with the investigations.

The state chronicled Gomwe’s history of violence, citing a case where he assaulted one of the complainants at a meeting at the Zanu PF headquarters which was being addressed by Cde Auxilia Mnangagwa.

Reza said Gomwe and his accomplices were bragging that they would not be punished for their crimes.
