The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Dr Ignatius Chombo, said vendors should have regularised their operations within a week from today.
This effectively means the honey moon is now over for all vendors illegally plying their trades at undesignated sites within Harare’s central business districts and in all towns after government approved an action plan by Harare’s city fathers which will see only six thousand vendors being permitted to lawfully operate in the capital.
Brigadier-General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwa, who is within the Joint Operations Command, warned those entertaining the idea of resisting government’s directive to move to the approved sites.
The Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, urged full compliance as the move is meant to bring sanity into the city.
The meeting was attended by the city fathers and representatives of vendors unions who also expressed their concerns.
